Last year we started talking about taking another trip to Disney World. Most of our previous trips have been in the spring or summer but we have always wanted to go when everything was decorated for Christmas. So this year we are going during December and we are bringing Branson, Brody, and Brooklyn with us! Since the kids are here visiting for a few weeks we decided to surprise them with the news that they are going to Disney World.
We spent a few weeks going over ideas of how to reveal the trip and finally settled on a treasure hunt to find clues that would eventually lead them to the big surprise. We needed to have some clues to send them away from the house so that Nana & Pops (what the kids call my parents) would have time to leave to get balloons blown up, pick up the cake, and get back to decorate.
The kids got clue #1 right after they woke up and it revealed the plan for the day.
After each clue they were instructed to take a photo with the clue as part of the hunt.
We started the day out with a Mickey Mouse themed breakfast that was so much fun!
We had pancakes made with a Mickey Mouse Pancake Mold along with blueberries, strawberries, whipped cream, and chocolate chips as toppings. The kids had fun creating different combinations of toppings on their pancakes.
Clue #2 was a game of BINGO to keep them busy while breakfast was being cleaned up.
The plan was to play BINGO until they each won a game so they all got a $5 prize to use later on in the treasure hunt.
After BINGO was over they found Clue #3 and found out that we would be leaving the house.
Clue #4 was another clue to kill some time and picking out treats and toys for the pups was the perfect plan because of course they had to go down every aisle and squeeze every toy there to find what they thought that the pups would like best.
Clue #5 was also a distraction clue! I knew that taking them to the store to spend their BINGO prize money would take up another good chunk of time and it did. We went to 5 Below and they spent about thirty minutes there going through the entire store trying to figure out what they wanted to buy. The boys settled on water guns and Brooklyn got swimming goggles with sparkles and a My Little Pony play set.
It was around noon by the time they got to Clue #6 and the perfect time to grab lunch before heading back to the house for the big surprise! Our Chick-fil-a happens to have a playground which served as another great distraction to give us the extra time that mom and dad needed to finish up the decorating.
The little posers had to take the clue photo with their prizes!
After lunch we went back to the house and they found the last clue taped to the door.
Blindfolds were handed out and they wanted to take the clue photo with them on.
We opened the door and they were led into the house where the dining room was all decorated…
And the cookie cake revealed the surprise written in icing!
After the surprise was revealed they wanted to take a photo with all of the balloons. Here are links to each character if you want to check them out: Buzz Lightyear, Storm Trooper, Cinderella, Elsa, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse. They are super cool and still floating around 5 days later.
The kids are so excited about the trip and have been talking about what they are going to ride when we go. I’ll be sharing our trip and even a few posts about trip prep the closer it gets. You can watch how the surprise reveal unfolded below!
