I hope you all had an amazing 4th of July and enjoyed the midweek break! We had a wonderful day filled with friends, fun, and lots and lots of food.
My dad grilled and mom and I took care of preparing the sides and desserts. Everyone arrived around noon just as the food was being brought into the house.
Our menu included barbecue pork chops, chicken, roasted corn, grilled veggies, potato salad, baked beans, and garlic bread. It was all delicious!
A quick side note… The day before mom and I were setting everything out trying to figure out where we would put all of the food to make it easily accessible. She wanted to put this cute blue and white striped runner on the island to make it festive but was worried about something getting spilled and staining it. We discussed different options to cover it and then she remembered that she had a roll of plastic that is used to stick over carpet to protect it. It’s super sticky on one side and so we cut a piece and stuck it down over the runner and let it overlap onto the island to keep the runner from moving. It worked like a charm! You can read this post to get more details on all of the decorations.
For dessert options, we had caramel pecan brownies, blueberry pie, lemon pie, cookies, cupcakes and strawberry shortcake. Everyone was so full after eating such a big meal that no one wanted dessert right away so we all snacked on sweet treats throughout the rest of the day.
We spent the rest of the afternoon enjoying one another’s company playing games and having fun. When the sun went down it sounded like a war zone in the neighborhood with fireworks going on all around us and we were able to end the night with a bang!
